Here are ALL the details you will need to participate in this fun community event, separately but together! On the walk you will be able to get some fresh air, explore the neighborhood and even earn a special treat.

  • Clues – we have placed clues in the neighborhood around Walgrove.  Scavenge to find signage at each of the stops with a QR code that will lead you to each clue. Look for the bright orange monarch! A few more details:
    • QR Codes – to access the clues, you will need to scan the QR codes on the signs at each stop. See instructions below and do a quick test to be sure it will work for you before you set out on your hunt. 
    • Clue Password – Each clue is password protected and the password is wewalk2020 (it’s case sensitive so be sure they are all lower case). 
    • CLUE #1: There are a total of 7 clues, one at each stop.  This first clue will get you started. Dr. K provided some pretty good hints on the video, but here are a few more. **The  first stop is a place where announcements are made, sometimes with a joke of the day, birthday greetings or a Wildlands metaphor statement sprinkled in for good measure. It’s very illuminating!** 
  • Schedule – you can do the walk anytime between Saturday, May 30 and Saturday, June 6; however, if you want to get the reward at the end (for walgrove students and siblings), you should try to do the walk between 11 am – 5 pm any of those days except Sunday (because the final stop closes at 7 pm and is closed on Sundays). 
  • Length –  The total length of the walk is 1.5 miles so you can do it in 2 parts if needed (or ride a bike if that’s easier!). 
  • Guidelines – as always, you should follow public health guidelines. Even though it would be much more fun to walk together, we spread out the event over a week to ensure everyone can go at their own pace and to avoid large gatherings. NOTE: You will need to have a mask for the last stop if you want to redeem your treat. 
  • Reward – to redeem your treat at the last stop, either adults or the kids can show their phones with the last clue but we think a certain donor would love it if you turned in the attached sheet where you can check off each of the clues (might be fun for the kids). If you have time before you head out, have the kids color in the butterfly so they have something pretty to turn in at the end and thank our local business for supporting Walgrove!

QR Code Instructions

With many smart phones, you will just need to open your camera and point it at the QR code, then a message will pop up that you can click on to go to the clue webpage.  Apple’s devices have built-in QR code scanning capabilities right in the camera app itself but it does vary for Android devices, so here is an article to check out. You can use the code below as a test before you head out to be sure!

If you don’t have a device that will work with the codes, please reply to this email and we will send you an offline version of the clues. 

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. For the first stop, you will be able to find the clue displayed prominently (as well as a laminated sign). For the rest of the stops look for a laminated sign with a big orange butterfly and a QR code in the bottom right corner. 
  2. Open your camera app or QR code reader and hold it up to the QR code.
  4. When the QR code is read, a message will pop up at the top. Click where is says Open “wearewalgrove.com”
  6. When you get to the clue webpage (for the first clue at least), you will be prompted to enter a password. For each clue, the password is wewalk2020 (all lower case). After the first clue, you probably won’t have to enter it again. 
  7. The webpage with the clue will appear. For each clue, in case you can’t figure it out, there is a spoiler way at the bottom if you keep scrolling.
  8. There are 7 clues in total and at the end, the kids will earn their treat. If you have any issues with scanning QR codes, or you’ve looked and can’t seem to find the code at your stop, please call or text Tony B at 310-591-9136 for help.
