Why teaching? I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in elementary school. I struggled in a very strict school that forced conformity. I chose to teach public school so I could co construct knowledge with students while honoring their individuality.

What makes Walgrove a special place? Walgrove is a place where many people have come together to do more than any of us could do alone. It is a collective of people who aspire to create a community of learners, that includes students, teachers, staff, and parents.  The diversity of the Walgrove community makes us special and enriches my classroom everyday.

Who/what inspires you? Dr. Chris Emdin from Columbia University is an educator/researcher who inspires me. Gloria Ladson-Billings’ research often informs my teaching practice. Brene Brown is another researcher and author that inspires me. All of these researchers inspire me to be my best self and to see my students as individuals.

If you were not teaching, what would you be doing? When I am not teaching, I enjoy cooking, going to concerts, crocheting, and reading. I am currently in a Master’s Degree program, in Curriculum and Instruction at Cal State Northridge. I will graduate in December of 2018.
